SAE Outduels Delta Chi in Late Game Thriller

On a night that mainly featured the mercy rule, SAE and Delta Chi made things interesting in a late game thriller.

**Game of the Night** Sigma Alpha Epsilon 50 - Delta Chi Monstars 43

SAE must have a knack for making their games interesting until the end. After a close game that ended in a tie with ZBT, Sigma Alpha Epsilon had yet another nail biter, thiIMG_0356_500x333s time with the powerful Delta Chi Monstars. This time, however, SAE was able to come out on top in an upset of Delta Chi, who was without their star player, Christian Lightbourne. With Lightbourne on Monday, Delta Chi rolled over a tough Kappa Sigma team, which made them a heavy favorite coming into tonight's game.

From the first jump ball to the final minute, the two teams battled tough, constantly changing the lead. Adam Adler and Justin Levy played tough in the first half on both offense and defense keeping the game close. The leader changed back and forth several times in the first half and when halftime arrived, the game was in favor of SAE by just three points.

The second half was a different story as SAE received their second wind and started the half on a surge. After ten minutes of play, SAE was up on Delta Chi by ten points. Though they seemed down and out, Delta Chi did not give up and came back to tie the score with four minutes left. Samuel Jacobson played great in the second half for SAE and Ty Tuliau did the same for Delta Chi. Both players scored twelve points in the half.

With one minute left in the game, SAE was ahead by just one point. It was then that Micheal Snodgrass turned on clutch mode and made five out of six shots from the free throw line after being fouled three times in the minute. Those free throws extended the lead for SAE and Delta Chi couldn't catch up.

Snodgrass finished the game with ten points and Levy added nine for SAE. Tuliau finished with seventeen points and Kevin Ige had twelve for himself.

Envi Hi 50 - Alpha Gamma Delta 10

Envi Hi took advantage of AGD missing star players Danica Marks and Lisa Bishop, and jumped out to a huge lead early in the first half. Angie Ostrela had a great start, scoring six straight points and finishing the first half with fourteen. Tana Gurule came off the bench and performed well, scoring four straight buckets and leading the team on several fast breaks. Envi Hi overall was just too quick, too big, and too athletic for AGD to handle.

Marks showed up with 2:32 remaining in the first half, however, her team was already far behind 33-2. AGD played much better in the second half with solid performances by Marks and Kaitlin Burroughs, but Envi Hi continued to put on the pressure and forced the mercy rule at the ten minute mark when Jaezele Balilea hit a three-pointer.

Ostreal led the way in scoring with 18 total points and Erin Cau chipped in 9 of her own. Burroughs and Marks were the only two to score for AGD, scoring 6 and 4 respectively.

Hiki No 57 - Native Rebs 27

Hiki No started the game on fire by going on a 14-2 run right off the bat, using their speed and excellent ball handling to their advantage over the Native Rebs. Lynsie Krebs couldn't miss IMG_0181_500x333early in the game, scoring six points within the first two minutes. The game was filled with continuous back and forth rallies. Native Rebs hung tough through the entire first half and through most of the game.

Trailing big after the first run, the Native Rebs answered back with 9-2 run of their own to bring the score within five. That run, however, was countered with a Hiki No 13-0 run to end the first half leading 32-13, thanks to strong performances by Krebs, Briauna Bissen, and Vaimalama Tito.

The Native Rebs started the second half by posing a possible comeback with a quick 9-2 run. Unfortunately for them, Hiki No regrouped fast and went on a 23-6 tear to finish the game and force the mercy rule at the five minute mark.

Tito led Hiki No with 13 points and Bissen and Melissa Ching added ten apiece. Murlynn Lee finished the game with 15 points for the Native Rebs.

PT Players 44 - G.V.E. 24

In a game that featured two hustling teams, PT Players proved to be the more dominant team. The first half of the game featured 8 combined three-point baskets between the two squads and fast, physical play until the halftime buzzer. With the score fairly close at the half, the PT defense stepped it up huge by holding G.V.E. to only six second half points.

Miles Hohnstein and Kitrick Rhodes both had excellent games, combining for 25 points and IMG_0227_500x333playing superb on both offense and defense. What seemed to be a pretty tight game in the beginning wound up finishing with another mercy rule, this time at the two minute mark.

Jonathan Griffith finished with seven points for the PT Players and Evan Kallas led the G.V.E. scoring efforts with eight points of his own.

BSL 69 - Hoover Dam Hoopers 49

Though the Hoover Dam Hoopers came out strong with an early lead, BSL was able to regain their focus and come back to take a 39-27 lead entering the half. With the speed of Timothy Koval and all-around great hustle from the team, BSL surged to a victory that finished with yet another mercy rule called at the two minute mark.

Vincent Vitatoe played big all game long, finishing with 29 points and drawing several fouls underneath in a game that ended with 25 total fouls. Matthew Orme finished with 18 points including a three-point buzzer beater to go into the half. Robb Jones and Casey Perkins played great on defense.

Devon Hill had a solid game for the Hoopers with 17 points and great effort on both sides of the ball. Blake Crane did a good job shooting from outside in the first half, however, costly fouls continued to let BSL stay in the game and eventually take the lead. Arinze Uzouihe finished with eight points and Adam Nuas added seven.

Team Elite 75 - Boyd 35

Numerous fast breaks, many turnovers, and practically a game-long dunk contest all contributed to Team Elite rolling over Boyd with the fifth straight mercy rule finish of the night, this one coming into effect at the ten minute mark. Benjamin Chambliss wowed both the players and the cheering section by making huge one-handed dunks as Team Elite looked more like the Harlem Globetrotters rather than an intramural team.

Chambliss and Jonah Ross each put up twelve points on the board. Chad Wolf came off the bench and hit two three-pointers almost immediately, finishing the game with eleven points of his own. Trevor Creel was the bright spot in a tough game for Boyd, who just couldn't match up with Team Elite's high powered offense. Creel had twenty points to his name with fifteen of them coming in the second half

With the huge lead of 51-15 at halftime, Team Elite started treating the game more like a dunk contest with impressive plays to show off their skills to the cheering section. Boyd had a much more productive second half, but it was far too late to spark any form of a comeback.

Kappa Sigma 20 - Alpha Tau Omega 0

Zeta Beta Tau 70 - Tau Kappa Epsilon 14

The game started out looking to be a possible battle, but ZBT ended that image fairly quick. Danny Mason and Mike Roers led the way to an easy victory over TKE in a game that finished with, you guessed it, another mercy rule at the ten minute mark.

TKE came out hustling and never stopped hustling until the final whistle, however, their efforts were no match to the strength and speed of the Zeebs. Mason had a productive first half with 17 points, leading ZBT to a demanding 52-11 lead going into halftime. The second half didn't get any better for TKE as ZBT cruised until the ten minute mark hit and ended the game.

Roers collected 11 points and Jordan Jakeway chipped in 8.

Alpha Phi Alpha 51 - Lambda Chi Alpha B 26

Leon Jackson had a spectacular night, scoring over half of the team's points as Alpha Phi Alpha cruised past Lambda Chi in yet more game in which the mercy rule was enforced. The game started out close as both teams continuously scored back and forth. Lambda Chi started wiIMG_0358_500x333th five players and almost had to settle with four after a scary incident in the first half sidelined Dustyn Stanley. Fortunately, however, teammate Cesar Zarate arrived shortly after the injury occured, helping Lambda Chi back to full strength.

The first half of the game was intense as APA only had an eight point lead. However, in the second half Jackson somehow outdid his first half performance by scoring 18 points and playing crucial defense. Once APA had a substantial lead, they cruised as time wound down and the game was called at the two minute mark.

Jackson finished with 28 points on the night and Joshua Igleke added 9 of his own. Lambda Chi played tough even without any subs and gave an admirable effort. John Gonzalez and Sean Maes led the team with ten points apiece.

Pi Kappa Alpha 43 - ZBT B-Team 32

In a game that looked to be a nail biter in the first half ended up as an easy win for Pike as they defeat ZBT B-Team by double digits. The first half of the game was very intense as Ben Green was responsible for half of Pike's points as they went into halftime with a three point lead. Though ZBT looked sloppy on offense, they competed well on defense and managed to keep the game within reach.

Though ZBT gave a valiant effort, Pike came out dominant in the second half. They used their height advantage to their favor by making several big rebounds on both offense and defense, making it tough for the Zeebs to make any rebound buckets. Nick Underwood did a superb job in the second half by making several rebounds and scoring eight. After a quick 7-0 run to start the half, Pike began to slow down their overall play in order to run down the clock and walk out victorious.

ZBT had a rough day on offense as they couldn't seem make any of their shots fall. Jim Kaikis led the Zeebs with eight points and Brian Loeb chipped in seven. Green finished the game with twelve buckets to lead Pike.
